Mike O’Callaghan Military Medical Center awarded The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval

By Robyn Stulgaitis

Mike O’Callaghan Military Medical Center (MOMMC) once again earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Hospital Accreditation in recognition of MOMMC’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care.

To earn the Gold Seal of Approval, MOMMC had to demonstrate compliance with challenging standards during a rigorous, unannounced onsite review. During the visit, a team of Joint Commission reviewers evaluated compliance in many areas spanning from emergency management, infection prevention, patient safety to hospital leadership.

“Accreditation from The Joint Commission is the recognition of the hard work that our team performs every day, ensuring that the care we provide is both safe and effective,” said Serena Nguyen, Clinical Quality Manager for MOMMC. “The gold
seal is an outward sign of how much we value our patients and that we work to provide the highest quality of care possible.”

The Joint Commission is the nation’s oldest and largest standards-setting and accrediting body in health care, certifying more than 22,000 health care programs worldwide. According to organization’s website, its mission is to improve health care by setting the highest standards for health care quality throughout the world.

“As a healthcare accreditor, The Joint Commission works with healthcare organizations across care settings to inspire safer and higher quality of care that is more equitable and compassionate,” said Ken Grubbs, DNP, MBA, RN, executive vice president of Accreditation and Certification Operations and chief nursing officer, The Joint Commission. “We commend Mike O’Callaghan Military Medical Center for its commitment to advance safety, quality, equity and compassion for all patients.”

Accreditation by the Joint Commission is not mandatory, but MOMMC’s voluntary accreditation is a symbol of the quality care delivered to patients. Fully integrated into the Clark County emergency medical services (EMS) system, MOMMC is the only hospital in northeast Las Vegas. The Level III Trauma Center is the only Air Force medical facility to treat civilian critical care and trauma patients arriving by ambulance.

MOMMC’s accreditation is valid until August 2027.
