Women's Health & Pregnancy

Women's Health refers to comprehensive women’s health care as well as health issues that are unique to women, including:

Pregnancy
Menopause
Conditions of the Female Organs

Be sure to get early and regular prenatal care to ensure you have a healthy pregnancy. You should also get recommended breast cancer, cervical cancer, and bone density screenings. Our goal is to ensure the health and readiness of all women at every stage of life.

Women's Health Services

We provide the following Women's Health services at Desmond T. Doss Health Clinic:

Obstetrics and Gynecology services are available by referral only. Please contract your Primary Care Manager to obtain a referral.
Walk-in pregnancy testing is available in both the Patient Center Medical Home and Soldier Center Medical Home clinics.
Walk-in testing for patients experiencing symptoms of a Urinary Tract Infection is available in both the Patient Center Medical Home and Soldier Center Medical Home clinics.
Emergency contraception is available without a prescription from the Main Pharmacy.

TRICARE Covered Services

TRICARE covers well-woman exams annually for women under age 65 with no cost-share or copayment. TRICARE offers coverage for many women’s health services, including:

For women who are age 65 and older and using TRICARE For Life, you can still get women’s preventive screenings. Get more information about these and other TRICARE covered services at: https://tricare.mil/coveredservices/isitcovered/.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q. I am an Active Duty SM and I need a pap/well women exam, what do I do?
A. Make an appointment with your PCM. Your PCM can perform the exam, or give you a referral for our clinic.
Q. I just had a positive pregnancy test, what do I do?
A. Contact your medical home via secure messaging or phone and an RN will contact you with further instructions to include ordering your pregnancy test, pre natal vitamins, and placing a referral with the OB clinic. Then come to Women’s Health to pick up an OB Registration packet this must be completed and submitted BEFORE your first appointment. Once your referral is approved you will receive a call to schedule your telephone appointment for OB Registration.
Q. Why don’t I see the same provider every time?
A. Our providers rotate through the OBGYN clinics and Labor and Delivery. We try our best to maintain continuity but we do not manage the providers’ rotations.
Q. I have a prescription for breast pump, now what?
A. The top of the prescription has the instructions, or you can find instructions on the Tricare website.
Q. I am Active Duty, how do I get my profile updated?
A. We do not have access to profiles, please see your PCM for profile updates.
Q. I cannot connect to my OBGYN on TRICARE Online, why not?
A. Because of our rotating providers, they do not see their messages frequently enough to keep up with the demand. If you have acute care questions, you should go into the Same Day Evaluation Clinic at TAMC (under 20 weeks) or Labor and Delivery Triage (over 20 weeks). If it is for medication refills, you can call the OBGYN advice nurse at 808-433-1501.
Q. Can I bring my children or significant other to my appointment?
A. Not at this time. The only exception is children under 2 months. We highly encourage video chat during appointments for significant others.
Q. I need a blood pressure check, can I just walk in?
A. We do not perform walk in blood pressure checks. You can visit your primary care clinic.
Q. Why haven’t I been seen since my first trimester?
A. We are trying to reduce exposure to Covid. We are recommending telephone appointments for 16 and 24 weeks for low risk patients. The anatomy scan is done in place of the 20 week appointment.
Q. How do I gain access to secure messaging?
A. Log on to MHS GENESIS Patient Portal website to obtain access
