Patient & Family Partnership Council (PFPC)

What is the PFPC?

A patient and family partnership council (PFPC) is an organization of current and former patients, family members and caregivers that works together to advance best practices at a hospital or healthcare organization. Volunteer patients and families collaborate with employees (clinical, administrative and support) to provide guidance on how to improve the patient and family experience.

Mission

Provide information, advice, and recommendations to Tripler Army Medical Center, Desmond Doss Health Clinic, and Warrior Ohana Medical Home on issues related to access to care, quality of care, administrative activities, and the patient and family experience of care.

Vision

To create a patient- and family-centered culture that involves a collaborative partnership among patients, families, leadership, and staff.

Objective

To improve the delivery of safe and quality health care by providing a way for the community to collaborate with staff, enhancing experience for patients and their families.

What do Patient & Family Advisors do?

  • Represent the interests of all patients cared for by the MTF.
  • Help improve the patient and family role in healthcare decision making.
  • Provide feedback about their care experiences.
  • Help to improve clinic policies, staff and clinician practices, programs, or facilities.
The Patient and Family Partnership Council meets in person once every quarter for approximately one hour.

What skills do advisors need?

  • Be a positive, open communicator who will share concerns and ideas respectfully.
  • Think and share ways to improve healthcare.
  • A commitment of one year (4 meetings) to the PFPC
  • Complete Red Cross Volunteer and HIPAA training as required.
