Description of Services

A walk- in clinic for Tricare Beneficiaries. The clinic manages acute illnesses and injuries not severe enough for an Emergency Room (ER) visit but concerning enough to need an evaluation within 24 hours.

Preparing for Your Visit

Please bring your Military ID
If you do not have legal consent to check in a minor, please have a special power of attorney from the parent/ legal guardian or have them speak to us on the phone to get verbal consent.
If you need short- term medication refills (up to 10 days) for a chronic condition such as blood pressure, diabetes, asthma, and high cholesterol, please bring the bottle with you for verification.
If you are an ACTIVATED reservist, please bring your orders with you to be seen.

Q. Do I need an appointment to be seen?
A. No, we provide walk- in services.
Q. Are you like Tripler’s Emergency Room?
A. No, we are not an Emergency Room. If you are concerned about a life- threatening condition (excessive bleeding, seizures, constantly ‘passing out’, stroke, heart attack, poisoning or others), please go to the closest Emergency Room or call 911.
Q. What’s the most common concerns that patient come to the UCC for?
A. Headaches, fever, flu symptoms, eye infections, colds/ congestion, coughs, sore throats, ear infections, recent musculoskeletal injuries, urinary tract infections, minor lacerations, toenail removals, skin infections, rash, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, and vomiting.
Q. Can I get my physical exams through the UCC?
A. No, we instruct patients to follow up with their Primary Care Provider in the Patient Centered Medical Home/ Soldier Centered Medical Home on base or their preferred Primary Care Provider off- post.
Q. I need or my children need to update their vaccination. Can I get this at the UCC?
A. Please visit your Primary Care Provider or visit the Family Immunization Clinic BLDG F, 808-433-8129 to update your vaccination records.
Q. Can I get my medications refilled through the UCC?
A. The ACC does not refill pain medications (except Motrin or Tylenol), behavioral health medications (Adderall, Ambien, Zoloft, etc), or other medications that require close follow up. Please contact your Primary Care Provider or Psychiatrist for refills or go to the Emergency Room. The ACC can refill up to 10 days of chronic medications for chronic conditions such as, but not limited to, asthma, diabetes, hypertension and hyperlipidemia.
Q. If I lost my medications during travel, can I refill them at the UCC?
A. We strongly recommend you contact your Primary Care Provider regarding lost or missing medications. The ACC does not refill pain medications (except Motrin or Tylenol) ), behavioral health medications (Adderall, Ambien, Zoloft, etc), or other medications that require close follow up. Q. If I don’t have any symptoms but want to be tested for a sexually transmitted disease, pregnancy, possible thyroid problem, erectile dysfunction, or just need my annual labs drawn, can I go to the UCC?
A. The ACC primarily manages acute symptoms. Please contact your Primary Care Provider for continuity of care of routine health needs or concerns.
Q. I do not have any symptoms but I was exposed to someone who tested positive for the COVID infection recently. Can I come to the UCC for testing?
A. We instruct patients to quarantine themselves for 14 days, and their families, if they are concerned about possibly having the Corona virus. They should contact their Primary Care Provider or call the COVID Hotline between Monday - Friday, 6:30 a.m. - 4 p.m., at 888-683-2778.
Q. I was seen by a provider from another clinic but I do not feel that I was given proper care, can I visit the Urgent Care Clinic?
A. Every member of the Desmond T. Doss Health Clinic strives to provide quality and excellent health care and may not have recognized the patient’s concern. We highly encourage patients to return to the clinic they were seen at and verbally inform them of their concerns in order for continuity of care and to clear any misunderstandings.
Q. I need a consult ordered. Can I go to the UCC for this?
A. Please refer to your Primary Care Provider for consults you want renewed or request for continuity of care and appropriate management.
Q. I feel depressed or anxious, is this something the UCC can manage?
A. We highly recommend you contact your Primary Care Provider or report to your assigned EBH Clinic. If you feel suicidal, homicidal or having suicidal/ homicidal ideations, please contact 911 or call the National Suicide Prevention Hotline 800-273-8255 or the Military Crisis Line 800-273-8255.
Q. If I was seen at another clinic for one healthcare concern, can I visit the UCC for another problem unrelated to the previous clinic’s visit?
A. Yes. The ACC recognizes that access can be an issue during certain times and we are happy to serve.
Q. I was seen by a provider from another clinic but was never given a sick or return to work/school note, can I get that from the UCC?
A. Please contact the provider or clinic where you were seen for these notes.
Q. I need my profile renewed. Can I go to the UCC for this?
A. The ACC cannot renew profiles. Please follow up with your Primary Care Provider.
Q. I was seen at the UCC, do I still need to follow up with my Primary Care Provider?
A. We highly encourage and instruct all beneficiaries to follow up with their Primary Care Provider after visiting the ACC because we want to ensure continuity of care, awareness, and re-evaluation of their condition by their Primary Care Provider. We also recognize that patients know their current symptoms and how it affects their bodies. If they need to, we highly encourage patients to visit the Emergency Room if there were further concerns or a worsening condition on the day of or after an ACC visit.
Q. Where can I get a copy of my documented visit in the UCC?
A. You can get a copy through the Patient Administration Department or PAD Office in the 1^st floor of BLDG E across from the Pharmacy. You can also look at all your documented encounter, x-ray and laboratory results in your MHS GENESIS Patient Portal. Please give at least 24 to 48 hours to check.
Q. How can I send the clinic leadership a note about my experience in the Urgent Care Clinic?
A. There are Interactive Customer Evaluation (ICE) comment cards in the clinic that you could drop off anonymously in our ICE comment box along the hallway. You could also fill out a comment card online at https://ice.disa.mil. Another option is to fill out the Joint Outpatient Experience Survey (JOES) that will come to you in the mail. We highly encourage patients to fill one or both of these surveys in order to improve the patient experience in the ACC.
